That’ll be the Mitzvah Day when ‘BUDDY HOLLY’ rocked STANMORE …
A huge number of volunteers rocked Stanmore’s Mitzvah Day on 19 November, pulling out all the stops to make a fabulous day which was enjoyed by everyone from the young to the old and which will be benefit so many charities.
Buddy Holly entertained more than 150 seniors, who enjoyed a tea and some dancing, also helped by the fantastic Brownies.
A group made massive pots of vegetable soup for Firm Foundations, a men’s homeless charity in Harrow.
The children kept busy planting pots for jLiving (a UK Jewish housing association); making stencil cards and tote bags for 2 Israeli charities and donating money to have their hair braided.
Donations streamed through the doors for our 6 charities collecting food; clothes; toys, books and much more. These included All Aboard, Sebby’s Corner, Watford New Hope Trust, Camp Simcha, GIFT and Langdon.
In fact, it was a ‘Mitzvah Month’, with activities starting on 15 October with a multi-faith gardening event where a group of volunteers from local religious groups cleared leaves, planted flowers and dug over the beds in The Memorial Garden in Canons Park, getting it ready for the winter.
And The Mitzvah Mummies (a group of toddlers, their parents and teachers from the shul’s Little Bicks Nursery) visited a local Jewish Care home, sang and played games with the residents.
A huge thank you to everyone for making it such a special day.
