THURSDAY 13TH NOVEMBER
Driving rain and a dark, cold night couldn’t keep us away from our Community Challah Bake where our community of all ages and stages, men and women gathered together to hear wise words of expertise from our wonderful Rebbetzin Naomi Birnbaum in honour of Parashat Chayei Sarah.
We mixed and kneaded our ingredients, let it rise then learnt about Hafrashat Challah – the Jewish commandment to separate a portion of bread dough for holiness. Then Rebbetzin Naomi demonstrated a couple of plaiting techniques and we became challah professionals (nearly!).
It was wonderful to take our masterpieces home to bake and fill our homes with the warmth and aromas of freshly baked challah to enjoy for Shabbat.
