Yom Hazikaron / Yom Haatzmaut 2025

Stanmore members gathered on Wednesday evening to commemorate Yom Hazikaron with a poignant ceremony led by Rabbi Eli Birnbaum. The event featured biographical recitals from community members, paying tribute to specific fallen brothers and sisters whose lives were taken over the various decades in wars and acts of terrorism since the founding of the State.

In stark contrast, the mood was elevated as we transitioned into Yom Haatzmaut. Peter Kraus led a festive Maariv, marking the beginning of our celebration of Israel’s 77th birthday.

Following this, 150 members joined together in the FSH to enjoy a feast of traditional Israeli foods and delicious desserts. Galit Shear, our inimitable choir leader, taught and led us in a rousing rendition of “Am Yisrael Chai” by Eyal Golan, which raised the roof. The evening concluded with a good schmooze amongst friends late into the night.

Many thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the evening.
