“We have been running this event at Canons Park for three years with the Friends of Canons Park, who always appreciate our efforts. Thank you and the Mitzvah Day team for your incredible contribution to the clearing of the flower beds in the walled garden at Canons Park! The team’s work was invaluable in finally clearing the last of the flower beds that we have had too little time to tackle. The result has been virtually weed-free beds, which we intend to build upon by bringing in a large amount of wood chippings to cover the exposed ground and thereby discourage the proliferation of weeds that normally start to push through again come spring.
We have had many compliments from park visitors, who say the garden has not looked so well-kept for many years, and we owe this to the hard work of all our volunteers and to the council, who spent a couple of weeks during November clearing the outer flower beds and reducing some of the overgrown shrubs to improve the sightlines across the garden. We have eight new benches being installed soon, which will also improve the vista and the facilities of our lovely walled garden.”
