Over 30 years ago, in February 1993, the women of Stanmore held the very first Orthodox Women’s Tefillah service in the UK. While early services were held off the shul premises, the Women’s Tefillah Group moved into the shul in 2012.
A service is held once every three months in the Beit Midrash, which has opened up many opportunities for women to lead services, lein from a Chumash, and read the haftorah. We also read specially adapted prayers for loved ones on a yahrzeit or for those who are unwell. We also take great joy in celebrating and blessing new babies and forthcoming brides. At each service, one or two women give a d’var torah, and we regularly have girls leading Anim Zemirot.
All women and girls are welcome, regardless of their knowledge or level of observance. There are opportunities for women and girls to learn to lein or take services. Contact Jacqui Rudolph or Ruth de Kare Silver for more details jacqui@stanmoresynagogue.org
The next services will be held on the following Shabbats at 9:30 am.
