SUMMARY:Women's Tefillah Group
DESCRIPTION:Over 30 years ago\, in February 1993\, the women of Stanmore held the very first Orthodox Women’s Tefillah service in the UK. While early services were held off the shul premises\, the Women’s Tefillah Group moved into the shul in 2012.  \nA service is held once every three months in the Beit Midrash\, which has opened up many opportunities for women to lead services\, lein from a Chumash\, and read the haftorah. We also read specially adapted prayers for loved ones on a yahrzeit or for those who are unwell. We also take great joy in celebrating and blessing new babies and forthcoming brides. At each service\, one or two women give a d’var torah\, and we regularly have girls leading Anim Zemirot.  \nAll women and girls are welcome\, regardless of their knowledge or level of observance. There are opportunities for women and girls to learn to lein or take services.  Contact Jacqui Rudolph or Ruth de Kare Silver for more details:  jacqui@stanmoresynagogue.org

SUMMARY:Jews Defending Jews: CST Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 22nd May | Doors open at 7:30pm\, Film begins at 8:00pm \nCST Alumni and Stanmore & Canons Park Synagogue warmly invite you to a compelling evening featuring a special screening of Jews Defending Jews — a powerful and deeply moving documentary from award-winning filmmaker David Herman. \nThis must-see film uncovers the proud\, often overlooked story of Jewish self-defence in the UK. Spanning nearly a century\, from the grassroots resistance of the 1930s to the vital work of CST today\, Jews Defending Jews weaves together rare archival footage\, striking imagery\, and first-hand testimonies to tell a story of courage\, community\, and quiet heroism. \nWhether you’re familiar with this history or discovering it for the first time\, this screening offers a rare opportunity to reflect on the legacy of those who stood up in the face of hate — and those who continue to do so.  \nAdmission is free\, booking required.

SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah: The Story of Rela Rogoff
DESCRIPTION:A Yom Hashoah talk by Sam Rogoff & Generation2Generation \nThursday 24th April | Doors open at 8:00pm \nRela Rogoff was born June 1922\, the youngest of seven children\, into an Orthodox family in Stanislavov\, Poland. One of her two brothers and two of her sisters survived the Holocaust. She died in London in 2006.   \nRela’s parents were wholesale fruiterers; life before the war revolved around both close and extended family when her hometown was first invaded by the Russians in 1939\, then by the Germans in June 1941.    \nAfter her parents and some siblings were murdered in the early pogroms\, she escaped to Lublin where\, living as a Polish Catholic\, she was soon betrayed\, imprisoned and tortured for three months in a Gestapo prison before being transported to Auschwitz where she survived 19 months.  \nShe met her future husband\, a serving member of the British armed forces when she was on the run towards the end of the war\, who brought her to England to start a new life.  \nRela had amazing strength and determination as well as an incredible will to survive. Sam’s presentation is interspersed with his mother’s and aunt’s testimonies read by family members\, including extracts from her book ‘The Will to Survive’ which was written by Rela together with her husband in 2005. \nWe are grateful and indebted to Sam\, a beloved member of our community and our Honorary Executive\, for giving his time to share his dear mother’s incredible story. \nSchedule: \n7:30pm – Mincha/Maariv \n8:00pm – Doors open \n8:15pm – Keynote Presentation: The Story of Rela Rogoff \n9:00pm – Questions \n9:15pm – Memorial prayers led by Rabbi Eli

SUMMARY:LSJS Exodus Tour of the British Museum
DESCRIPTION:This event is now sold out! Please join our waiting list below. \n  \nWhy is this night different from all other nights? \nExperience a pre-Pesach immersive educational experience like no other with LSJS as you tour the British museum through the lens of history\, archaeology and tradition. \nWho was the Pharaoh of the Haggadah? Did the plagues really happen? Is there any evidence that the Exodus happened? What was the geopolitical situation at the time? What did it really mean to be ‘slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt’?  \nBeyond all of the above\, our understanding of the Torah’s description of the Exodus story must be complemented with an understanding of Ancient Egyptian customs\, concepts and beliefs. Through the statues\, tombs and hieroglyphs\, as well as the biblical text\, this tour will transform your Seder night experience. \nRun by Michelle Sint\, educator for LSJS. Michelle studied English\, American and Hebrew Literature (BA) and Jewish Studies (MA). Michelle is a graduate of the LSJS Susi Bradfield Women Educators’ Fellowships\, she teaches and guides tours\, and teaches the Matan Bat Mitzvah course. \n  \nWith thanks to Belmont United Synagogue for partnering with us for this event. \nFor security reasons\, our meeting point will be confirmed nearer the time via email.

SUMMARY:Swords of Iron Volunteering Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 2nd February\, 9:30am (following Shacharit) \nCome and join our breakfast with Yocheved Ruttenberg\, the award-winning founder of Sword of Iron Israel Volunteer Opportunities\, one of the fastest-growing volunteer movements in Israel. Yocheved was voted among Israel’s top 48 people who exemplify Israeli resilience and building toward a brighter future in 2025.  \nSword of Iron Israel bridges the gap between people and opportunities to support the State of Israel. With over 40\,000 volunteers globally\, they have significantly contributed to the civilian support in Israel since October 7th. \nYocheved will be sharing the critical importance of volunteering in Israel NOW. She will talk about our shared privilege and responsibility and how we ALL have something to offer as well as the legacy in Israel that we must ALL help to protect\, and OUR role in re-building Israel in a ‘day after’ scenario that we pray will establish a lasting peace.  \n  \nYocheved’s talk will be followed by an open Q&A. \nPlease note: this event is free of charge but for security and catering reasons\, we require booking in advance.
