SUMMARY:The Festival Of Freedom?
DESCRIPTION:We are grateful and excited to welcome back the wonderful Shira Jackson for a dynamic women’s pre-Pesach shiur and social. Shift your focus from the busyness of holiday preparations to the deeper meaning of the season\, and gain ideas to share at your Seder table. \nWhat does freedom mean to us\, and are we truly free in the modern world? How can we celebrate the festival of freedom in a year like this\, when many of our people are not free? Join us to explore the story of Jews throughout history\, navigating this very issue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough engaging insights and open discussion\, we’ll explore the layers of cheirut (freedom) in Jewish thought and how these timeless ideas resonate in our personal and collective experiences today. The event also offers a chance to unwind\, connect\, and recharge with friends\, blending meaningful conversation with relaxed social time. \nRefreshments will be provided.

SUMMARY:LSJS Exodus Tour of the British Museum
DESCRIPTION:This event is now sold out! Please join our waiting list below. \n  \nWhy is this night different from all other nights? \nExperience a pre-Pesach immersive educational experience like no other with LSJS as you tour the British museum through the lens of history\, archaeology and tradition. \nWho was the Pharaoh of the Haggadah? Did the plagues really happen? Is there any evidence that the Exodus happened? What was the geopolitical situation at the time? What did it really mean to be ‘slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt’?  \nBeyond all of the above\, our understanding of the Torah’s description of the Exodus story must be complemented with an understanding of Ancient Egyptian customs\, concepts and beliefs. Through the statues\, tombs and hieroglyphs\, as well as the biblical text\, this tour will transform your Seder night experience. \nRun by Michelle Sint\, educator for LSJS. Michelle studied English\, American and Hebrew Literature (BA) and Jewish Studies (MA). Michelle is a graduate of the LSJS Susi Bradfield Women Educators’ Fellowships\, she teaches and guides tours\, and teaches the Matan Bat Mitzvah course. \n  \nWith thanks to Belmont United Synagogue for partnering with us for this event. \nFor security reasons\, our meeting point will be confirmed nearer the time via email.

SUMMARY:Swords of Iron Volunteering Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 2nd February\, 9:30am (following Shacharit) \nCome and join our breakfast with Yocheved Ruttenberg\, the award-winning founder of Sword of Iron Israel Volunteer Opportunities\, one of the fastest-growing volunteer movements in Israel. Yocheved was voted among Israel’s top 48 people who exemplify Israeli resilience and building toward a brighter future in 2025.  \nSword of Iron Israel bridges the gap between people and opportunities to support the State of Israel. With over 40\,000 volunteers globally\, they have significantly contributed to the civilian support in Israel since October 7th. \nYocheved will be sharing the critical importance of volunteering in Israel NOW. She will talk about our shared privilege and responsibility and how we ALL have something to offer as well as the legacy in Israel that we must ALL help to protect\, and OUR role in re-building Israel in a ‘day after’ scenario that we pray will establish a lasting peace.  \n  \nYocheved’s talk will be followed by an open Q&A. \nPlease note: this event is free of charge but for security and catering reasons\, we require booking in advance.

SUMMARY:A Father's Faith: An Evening with Dani Miran
DESCRIPTION:Omri Miran\, 46\, was taken captive on October 7th by Hamas terrorists from Kibbutz Nahal Oz\, leaving his wife\, Lishay Miran\, 38\, and their two young daughters behind.\n\n\n\nAt 10:30 a.m.\, the window in their bathroom was kicked in and terrorists entered their house. Omri and Lishay tried to keep their daughters quiet in the safe room\, and had two knives with them to try and protect themselves. \nA few hours later\, the terrorists told Omri and the father of the another family to stand\, and they took them\, with their car keys to their cars. Minutes later\, said Lishay\, she saw them driving away. Omri was taken hostage and driven into Gaza in his own car. \nOmri was last seen alive in a cynical Hamas propaganda video released on April 24th. \n  \n\n\nSince that fateful day\, Omri’s father Dani left his home in the north of Israel behind and moved to Tel Aviv to become an ever-present at the Hostages Forum offices. There\, Dani has played a central role in volunteering and campaigning as the desperate effort to return the hostages goes on. We are honoured to be joined by Dani as he shares the story of his experiences over the past 14 months\, through trial and tribulation and yet with undying hope and optimism that he will be reunited with Omri very soon. \n  \nTimings: \n8:00pm – Welcome and introduction \n8:15pm – Keynote from Dani Miran \n9:15pm – Appeal from Magen David Adom UK \n9:20pm – Refreshments  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Women's Tefillah Group
DESCRIPTION:Over 30 years ago\, in February 1993\, the women of Stanmore held the very first Orthodox Women’s Tefillah service in the UK.   While early services were held off the shul premises\, the Women’s Tefillah Group moved into the shul in 2012.  \nA service is held once every three months in the Beit Midrash\, which has opened up many opportunities for women to lead services\, lein from a Chumash\, and read the haftorah. We also read specially adapted prayers for loved ones on a yahrzeit or for those who are unwell. We also take great joy in celebrating and blessing new babies and forthcoming brides. At each service\, one or two women give a d’var torah\, and we regularly have girls leading Anim Zemirot.  \nAll women and girls are welcome\, regardless of their knowledge or level of observance. There are opportunities for women and girls to learn to lein or take services.  Contact Jacqui Rudolph or Ruth de Kare Silver for more details  jacqui@stanmoresynagogue.org
