SUMMARY:The Great Stanmore (Challah) Bake Off
DESCRIPTION:This Shabbat\, we will read the portion of Chayei Sarah which commemorates the life and legacy of our matriarch Sarah. Married to Abraham as the founding parents of the Jewish people\, Sarah represents courage\, faith and profound wisdom.  \nOur sages teach that Sarah insituted the custom of baking special loaves of bread for Shabbat\, and that miraculously the challah would remain fresh from one week to the next.  \nWe invite all parents and children to join us in a Great Big Stanmore Bake Off\, preparing and making challah together while learning about its important role throughout Jewish history. Each bracha (blessing) will be recited in the merit of a speedy recovery for those injured during the conflict in Israel. \n  \nSchedule:  \n17:00 – Introduction by Naomi Birnbaum \n17:15 – Challah bake! \n18:30 – Prayer for a speedy recovery and safe release of the hostages \n18:45 – Refreshments  \n  \nWITH APOLOGIES\, BOOKING FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED

Opening with candle lighting for mummies\, then an abridged Kabbalat Shabbat filled with singing and dancing\, the perfect way to introduce your youngsters to the liveliest service of the whole week!   \n15:45 – Candle lighting with Naomi \n16:00 – Singalong service with Rabbi Zeidman \n17:00 – Friday night meal with games\, quizzes and activities  \n18:30 – End \n  \n(Geared toward toddlers and children in Reception – Year 6\, but younger/older children are more than welcome to join!) \nParents and grandparents welcome!

SUMMARY:Mitzvah Day\, 24th November 2024
DESCRIPTION:This year\, SACPS will be putting all of its efforts into another fun-filled and jam-packed event with something for everyone. You don’t need to have a particular skill\, just some enthusiasm and a little bit of time (even an hour makes a difference). We have lots of different opportunities\, depending on what you like doing. \nThese include: \n\nSoup making\nSandwich making\nServing the tea/sandwiches at the Seniors Tea\nSetting up the room for the Seniors’ Tea\nDecorating the shul with Mitzvah Day accessories\nHelping with the collectathons (and donating)\nHelping to run the children’s activities\n\nA highlight of the day is the Seniors Tea\, where 150 of our seniors are entertained by a top-quality tribute act and tuck into a delicious tea. Acts have included Barbra Streisand\, Frank Sinatra\, and Buddy Holly. The event is sponsored by The Landsby\, Stanmore. \nWe also run an interfaith gardening project at Canons Park on 27th October 2024 (absolutely no experience needed\, and children welcome).  Click here for more information. \n  \n\n\nPlease volunteer by clicking here.\n  \n\n
